← All six questions The Labor Iceberg

Am I at risk? Can I still get hired? What should I do next month?

You're wondering if your job is next, whether you can still get hired, and what to actually do about it in the next few months.

Most of what gets written about AI and work is either a forecast or a warning. This track is neither. It is an attempt to say what is actually happening to people's jobs right now, with the sourcing attached, while it is still happening.

It runs during the infrastructure series rather than after it for one reason: the labor market is not going to wait for a publishing calendar. The same constraints the Iceberg series maps, the cost of inference, the scarcity of compute, the pressure to show a return, are what push a company to restructure a team this quarter rather than in 2028.

Seven pieces. Who gets hit first, and why it is not who most people expect. What the Rust Belt recovery data says about which places came back and which did not. Which adjacent roles are absorbing displaced workers. What someone with no technical background can do in the next few months, not over five years. Written for you, not about you.

What's here now
